Review of the 1/16 Traxxas E Revo VXL

I have definitely been out of the loop. When I was a kid model cars and trucks might have wheels that really turned. Putting together a model from parts generated excitement. I was dimly aware there had been some advances since that time, but a recent visit to my grandnephew left me totally overwhelmed by the Traxxas E Revo VXL. Apparently, models have been upgraded just a bit since the Stone Age.

 

Performance and Innovation – E Revo VXL

The innovative technology of the Traxxas E Revo VXL is stunning. Not only does it match the monster truck it imitates down to the smallest detail but also performs incredible feats with its electronic wizardry. I mean these models move fast and not just for radio-controlled models. My old clunker of a vehicle would have trouble matching its speed. Traxxas has taken great strides in the hobbyist field of radio-controlled racing by matching electronic technology with incredible attention to detail. The 1/16th scale model of the Traxxas E Revo VXL models the original so precisely I began to wonder whether I had missed out on the introduction of a shrinking-ray machine. Oops! Honey I shrunk the truck.

 

 

The Traxxas E Revo VXL is built to 1/16th scale incorporating those innovations that have made the E Revo and Revo models winners of races. The innovations are duplicated in miniature right down to the incredible rocker-actuated suspension. The model is as fully functional as the original, including the threaded-body GTR shocks filled with oil. When the model was introduced, this suspension and the electronics that were flawlessly integrated into the semi-monocoque chassis, were considered great innovations for performance and tuning enhancement. It is all the more impressive that is done at 1/16th scale.

As I mentioned before, these mini racers are fast. But there are other minis that are also fast compared with my previous experience. The Traxxas E Revo VXL is in an entirely different league. The normal package includes a 6-cell NiMH battery that powers the mini past 30 miles per hour, which is more than twice as fast as most other minis, making it the best RC truck on the market. But that is not the end of the story. You can add an additional battery-pack and supercharge the truck to speeds over 50 miles per hour. You will have amazing wheelie power at the flick of a switch, making it the best RC monster truck of any scale.

The Traxxas E Revo VXL is equipped with the Traxxas TQ 2.4GHz High Output radio system. This system offers a crystal-less and channel-less technology that enhances long-range security of the signal. The new patented link technology stores the signals of up to 20 link-enabled models in memory. It is not necessary to name each model or select an output frequency. When you power up the radio system and the model you want to control, the model automatically transmits the proper settings to the radio controller. The controller is also fully adjustable for exacting control of remote functions. What Others Say About the Traxxas E Revo VXL

This little truck is bad! It’s extremely durable, can definitely take a beating. It’s a ton of fun to drive. My only tip is to go ahead and order a lipo and a lipo charger, the original battery is okay for beginners, but only offers 10-15 min run time,and takes an hour to charge. It does not give you half the power that a lipo will. I have an 11.1v 3c lipo, and it’s honestly almost to much power. You can cruise at 40mph, and punch it and the truck will flip over. I would reccomend a 7.4v lipo, or even better 2 of them in parallel for a long run time. I have been driving the truck hard for a while now without a single issue. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a hobby, it really is a blast to drive!

This is a powerhouse of a RC car! So powerful in fact, that you should be prepared to spend around $20 or so on replacement parts, because you WILL break something. The car is durable and strong, but the brutal speed you get with two batteries is a lot for a beginner driver. The car has a “training mode” that may have saved some broken parts I experienced, due to my inexperience in driving small cars above 40 mph… All around though, I have fun with this car and it doesnt bother me at all that I may have to spend $5 or $10 here and there to fix this or that. There is also real educational value here as well. I destroyed my entire front end, which in turn needed a complete rebuild from the transmission forward. At first I hated the experience, but now I understand a lot about how the individual components work. I would highly reccomend this car for street and minimal off road use, just due to it’s short clearance from the ground. Also, Traxxas is the brand to have. Their customer service department is unmatched and top notch. You will not regret having bought Traxxas!
